RECENT SPECULATION ON MY PART, EMPHATICALLY NOT CAST IN STONE: one of the reasons that the Poland of the Middle Ages, but especially thereafter, failed utterly to destroy Russia, was that she converted to the Roman Catholic wishes of the 'Holy' Roman Empire, became mainly Roman Catholic for anti-Russian, but not spiritual, reasons, and sold Orthodox Christianity for lucre (most Christian Orthodox church property was sold to Jews, who were nevertheless massacred by many Polish people later, in the last world war), and then accepted communism for many years, yet increased the number of RC churches during the communist 'dictatorship' hugely (there were, sadly, a few sick fanatics who killed a priest). Unfortunately, the bad side of atavism still manifests itself today. Poland cannot apparently face the fact that Russia put them in their place. History explains Poland's current position of Russia-hater and the bedmate of the so-called 'West'. So Poland has to pretend to love Merkel, hahaha! Poland is a fascinating place, and used to have some good oarsmen (oarsmen the world over are as one), and has wonderful cooking. But I do wish that its politicians could be just a little less vicious towards Russia. They ought to realise that Jan Sobieski, one of the chaps who smashed the Ottoman madness, is no more. Poland, like France, Lithuania and Britain, needs to forget the problem of their post-imperial rigor mortis. Even the horrid Katyn massacre was, sadly, balanced by previous horrible events on the part of Poland. Such horrors need to be remembered as mistakes, not as cheaply exploited excuses for hatred.
